The Kirkwood City Council voted on first reading Sept. 18 to accept transfer of the Possum Woods Conservation Area from the Missouri Department of Conservation for designation as parkland associated with Emmenager Park.
A staff member described the transfer as a deed conveyance from the Missouri Department of Conservation and told council: "They're not charging the city anything" for the land transfer. Councilmembers asked whether maintenance costs were budgeted and whether the city’s park budget can sustain long-term maintenance; staff indicated a follow-up response would be provided at the second reading when additional staff (Mark and Kyle) could be present to confirm budget details.
Council discussion noted that portions of the property abut or lie within neighboring Sunset Hills, and that the city already maintains some of the ground. Council approved first-reading acceptance; staff said the city would retain the Possum Woods name.
Because the parcel is being transferred from a state conservation agency, the item moves now to a second reading for final acceptance with staff follow-up on maintenance and any document costs.
