Raytown accepts $16,000 grant for community Christmas tree; annual installation costs to be offset by local donation

The Raytown Board of Aldermen voted Sept. 2 to accept a $16,000 grant from the Truman Heartland Community Foundation to purchase, install, take down and store a community Christmas tree at the northwest corner of Raytown Road and 60 Third Street.
City staff described the tree as an 18-foot, panelized display (10-foot base; expandable by adding panels) with soft white lights and silver-and-blue bulbs. The cost covered the first year of installation, dismantling and storage; staff said recurring annual installation and storage costs would be partially offset by a recurring donation that the mayor described as a $2,000 annual contribution to the mayor’s Christmas tree fund.
An alderman moved approval of the resolution accepting the grant; the motion was seconded and passed by roll call. Staff said the tree will be installed on property provided by UMB Bank and that the city can expand the display in future years by adding panels.
