Commission hears Safe Streets recap, discusses Pumpkin Smash dumpster and outreach

Staff also reminded commissioners that fall signage from the Green Space Advisory Commission is available for $10 at the rec center. The group discussed Pumpkin Smash logistics: last year the dumpster rental and related fees cost the commission $515 and the commission’s allocation for such events is $1,000 for the fiscal year. Commissioners discussed alternatives—drop-off trucks used by neighboring jurisdictions, composting partners, or asking local businesses to help collect pumpkins—and suggested routing event planning and composting/recycling details to the Community Engagement or Natural Environment subcommittees. Staff offered to coordinate an offline planning group (Carrie, Andrea, Anna, Amna) and report back.
No formal action was taken; commissioners asked staff to list the dumpster on the October agenda for a formal decision and to circulate the EV car-show flyer and city-calendar graphic once the city’s public-affairs staff posts the Facebook event.
