Council questions whether Brown Farms parcels meet agricultural-use criteria

On March 11 Hudson City Council reviewed a third-reading resolution to approve placement of several Brown Farms parcels in a current agricultural-use district under Ohio law. Councilor Sutton said he could not see evidence of active agriculture on the parcels and asked staff for more context.
Staff said they reached out to Summit County, which verified the parcels are eligible and described the activity as commercial timber; because the parcels exceed 10 acres, the applicants were not required to show income. Staff characterized the application as a renewal of an existing designation and agreed to obtain and provide additional information from the property owner before the weekend because the item is time-sensitive.
Councilors raised alternatives such as county conservation programs if the applicants intended permanent conservation rather than timber management. No final council action was taken at the workshop; staff will follow up with additional documentation and the applicant's context before the March 18 meeting.
