HCTV advisory committee lays out 2025 goals and previews new streaming app

The HCTV Advisory Committee told Hudson City Council it completed several 2024 projects and proposed four 2025 goals including promotion of a new, supportable streaming app coming this summer, volunteer recruitment, expanded Community Day planning and responses to declining franchise fees.
Nick Zakkonovich, chair of the HCTV Advisory Committee, told the Hudson City Council on March 11 that the committee completed its 2024 priorities and is proposing four goals for 2025, chief among them promotion of a new HCTV streaming app expected to go live in summer 2025.
Zakkonovich said the committee checked off 2024 priorities including increased social-media outreach and equipment upgrades; he described the new app as a replacement for “the current non functioning app” and said it will be “supportable” and include major streaming services. “This new app that will be coming online in the summer will be a completely new app that will be supportable,” he said.
The committee also proposed recruiting more volunteers to backstop understaffed productions beyond football, expanding planning and promotion for Community Day, and addressing reduced franchise-fee revenue that has lowered HCTV's operating funds. Committee members noted some equipment and remote-recording gear were donated by the Friends of HCTV nonprofit and that two interns/students who contributed significantly are leaving for college.
Council members welcomed the presentation and pressed the committee for measurable targets. One councilor asked the committee to return next year with metrics such as percent increases in app downloads, volunteer counts and event attendance so the city can track progress. Committee members said the new app will make viewership tracking possible in ways Spectrum did not allow.
Council President Foster and others thanked the committee for volunteer leadership and suggested outreach at community events and the farmers market to recruit volunteers. Zakkonovich and committee members said Friends of HCTV has purchased a tent and that they are prepared to promote the station at events.
The committee will return with progress and, when available, metrics tied to the new app and volunteer recruitment. No formal council action was taken at the March 11 workshop; the item was presented for discussion and transparency.
