Hudson council agrees to memorialize Abraham Lincoln plaque on city property

Hudson — Council members agreed during the Sept. 23 workshop to memorialize an Abraham Lincoln plaque on city property after staff reviewed historic research and an 1856 map showing a nearby passenger depot.
A councilor described conversations with Tom Vince, a local historian, and cited an 1856 map included in the agenda packet that shows the passenger depot, freight depot and a train building near what is now Maple Street. Council members said the existing plaque appears to sit within roughly 20 yards of the former depot location and supported formalizing the plaque's placement with a council resolution. "I think we should, given the history and the tie back to our historical city, absolutely," the chair said in support.
Council directed staff to prepare the memorializing resolution for future action.
