Hudson honors Liz Murphy for decades of service and bookstore leadership

The Hudson City Council on Sept. 2 presented a proclamation honoring Liz Murphy for 30 years as owner of the Learned Owl Bookshop and for leadership in local civic initiatives.
Mayor Jeffrey L. Anzavino read the proclamation in full, citing Murphy's role bringing authors to town, organizing high-profile community events such as multiple Harry Potter extravaganzas that drew national attention, helping found Destination Hudson and serving on multiple civic committees. Councilors praised Murphy's longtime community service: "It's truly amazing and awe inspiring," Councilor Kowalski said, and Council President Foster recalled buying books from Murphy as a child.
Murphy accepted the recognition and thanked staff, volunteers and family. "I am honored and very humbled by the outpouring of love and support," she said, describing the store's volunteers and the community work that followed. City staff also thanked her: City Manager Mr. Sheridan said her imprint on the city "will never go away." The proclamation notes Murphy's awards including Hudson's Citizen of the Year and the Rotary Club's Jimmy Sutfin award.
The council paused briefly afterward to allow departing attendees to leave and then proceeded with the rest of the agenda.
