Brook Park City Council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor, as the local public authority, to give consent to the Ohio Department of Transportation to upgrade the traffic‑signal system at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing at Eastland Road near State Route 237 (PID 114522).
Mayor Orcutt told the council the pre‑signal has been discussed for years and that the city is not expected to incur costs for the installation. City Engineer Ed Piatek described the project as the last necessary piece of local legislation before ODOT can move forward and said, “There is no cost to the city as the mayor indicated,” adding that ODOT asked for the legislation to be returned by Aug. 27 in order to sell the project.
Councilmembers raised the possibility that the pre‑signal could be combined with a quiet‑zone review to reduce train horn noise at nearby crossings; the engineer said he would look into interconnections and quiet‑zone implications. Piatek estimated construction for the single signal and interconnect work would likely take no longer than a month, possibly just days to two weeks.
Council moved a procedural motion that the item had been discussed and later adopted Resolution 18‑2025 on suspension of the rules.
