Council suspended the rules and adopted ordinance 11487-2025, which amends Brook Park’s bicycle and tricycle ordinance to address electric bicycles and related safety concerns.
Councilman Dufour, along with sponsors including Councilmen Scott, Mancini, Troyer and others, led the effort. Council members praised the timing and said the ordinance is a starting point. Councilman Treuer said the measure was “timely” given resident complaints about e-bike speeds on side streets and called for education and enforcement alongside the ordinance.
During remarks from the audience, resident Albert Wolf praised council members for bringing the issue forward and encouraged follow-up changes as the city gains experience. The ordinance passed on suspension after a roll-call vote recorded as affirmative by council members present.
What’s next: council members said they expect the law to be somewhat fluid and will return with adjustments if neighboring jurisdictions or state guidance warrant changes. Enforcement and public education were identified as near-term priorities.
