Manassas Park proclaims September as Recovery Month; resident urges pool access

Mayor Alana Mensing read a proclamation noting national recovery statistics and local programming. The council moved and approved the proclamation; Lanelle Mozelle, program manager for outpatient therapy services at Prince William Community Services, accepted the proclamation and described a recovery-month event offering yoga, therapy dogs, acupuncture, speakers on gambling and recovery, and free HIV testing.
In public comment, Tony Shifflett said he supports a development on Manassas Drive but urged the city to ensure residents can use community center amenities. "I left at 04:45 today in order to get here 10 minutes ahead of time," Shifflett said, and he described a situation where "6 of the 8 lanes are rented out" during times when residents want to access the pool. He asked that residents be considered in planning so taxpayers can use facilities they help fund.
