Manassas Park schedules appointments after hearing; governing-body and school-board choices set for Feb. 11

During the hearing, the mayor listed applicants for the governing body as Laura Hampton, Stephanie Smith, Mohammed Kamaluddin, Kevin Moreau, Donald Shoemaker, Rachel Kirkland and Robert Maldonado. School-board applicants were listed as Maria Shovec and Zachary Graham; several supporters submitted online comments on behalf of candidates.
Residents spoke at length in support of individual applicants. Ellen Slobodnick said Kevin Moreau has been an active community volunteer and recommended him for the governing body. Tyler Vaughn and others echoed that endorsement with personal anecdotes. Mike Smith urged the council to appoint Laura Hampton, citing her work on zoning, parking and community initiatives.
The presiding officer said applicants— resumes are available at the city clerk—s office Monday—Friday, 8:30 a.m.—5 p.m., and that appointments will be made at the Feb. 11 meeting.
The public hearing and the list of supporters were entered into the meeting record; no appointment votes were taken on Feb. 4.
Next steps: the governing body will convene on Feb. 11 to make formal appointments.
