Board approves easement to bring power to Appalachian Center of Hope

The Smyth County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a county easement Sept. 11 that will allow Appalachian Electric Power (AEP) to cross state and county property to deliver power to the Appalachian Center of Hope building.
County staff explained the easement is necessary because power must cross a portion of county property to reach the building. Staff recommended approval and asked the board to authorize a county official identified in the packet as "Mister Ogg" to execute the easement documents. Supervisors asked staff to confirm alignment and reviewed the route; staff said the route crosses the road directly to the end of the building and that the county will ultimately benefit from power to a building the county owns.
The board moved, seconded and approved the easement request unanimously.
What happens next: staff will finalize and have the authorized official execute the easement documents to allow AEP to provide service to the Appalachian Center of Hope.
