Maplewood, July 28 — The Maplewood City Council approved a resolution ordering abatement of hazardous and public nuisance conditions at 1212 Skillman Avenue East after city inspections and a history of code-enforcement actions dating back to 2008.
Planning staff member Danette Parr told the council the property had been the subject of repeated citations and that a June 18, 2025 inspection found conditions consistent with the photographs in the staff report. “Based on the conditions that we found at the site, we have determined that it is a property that is hazardous, it's unsafe, and it is a public nuisance under the state law and under our city code,” Parr said.
The resolution adopted by the council directs staff to serve an order requiring abatement within 45 days; if the owner does not bring the property into compliance, the city will seek a court order authorizing the city to abate the conditions and recover costs. City staff and the city attorney prepared the resolution and emphasized prior attempts at voluntary compliance.
