The Maplewood City Council on Aug. 25 approved acceptance of up to $20,000 from the Ramsey Washington Metro Watershed District to build a rain garden at the entrance to the police department.
Mr. Darrow told the council that the city would contribute approximately $7,600 to the project and that City staff conducted a competitive bid process, awarding the construction contract to Landbridge with planting expected this fall. Councilmember Ginnaman moved approval and Councilmember Cave seconded. The motion carried by voice vote.
Project purpose and schedule: Staff said the rain garden will provide stormwater pretreatment and enhance water‑quality controls at the police department entrance; planting is anticipated in the fall with construction beginning in September following contract execution.
Fiscal and procurement details: The grant covers up to $20,000; the city’s local match is approximately $7,600. Staff said the project proceeded through competitive bidding prior to council action and identified Landbridge as the contractor selected to construct and plant the rain garden.
Next steps: Staff will finalize contract documents and coordinate construction timing with the selected contractor and watershed district representatives.
