The Maplewood City Council voted to order a feasibility study for the 2026 Maplewood Street Improvements (City Project 25‑21). Public Works staff explained this is an early step to determine scope, estimated costs, funding options and resident engagement for two areas (Walter/Beam area and County Road C area) totaling roughly 4.2 miles and an aggregate pavement condition index of about 36 out of 100.
Staff emphasized a concern about subgrade soils and a high water table that could change the project scope from reclamation to full reconstruction; the study will include soil borings and a field investigation early to determine appropriate treatments. The council supported moving forward to develop a plan and return with scope and funding recommendations.
Mr. Love said the feasibility phase is intended to maximize resident engagement and inform the capital improvement plan and staff will return with findings and funding scenarios for council consideration.
