Maplewood council imposes $500 fine on Crooked Pint after failed alcohol compliance check

Maplewood — The City Council voted to impose a $500 civil penalty on the Crooked Pint after staff reported two 2024 alcohol compliance check failures, one of which involved an establishment that has since closed.
City Clerk Sint explained past practice for civil penalties and noted the council could suspend or revoke licenses but was not pursuing that option at this meeting. Staff recommended waiving a fine for TGI Bridal because the business is closed and imposing $500 on Crooked Pint as a first-time violation.
Lynn Reid, general manager of the Crooked Pint in Maplewood, apologized for missing the prior meeting and for the compliance lapse. She said the employee involved was terminated: “We have a 0 tolerance policy that if they are caught serving to a minor that they are immediately terminated,” Reid said. Darla Weiss, corporate human resources manager, said the company is reviewing formal compliance training options.
Councilmember Cave moved to impose the proposed penalties; the motion passed by roll call.
