Old Highway 100 bridge reopens early; Jefferson Street work wraps up, airport runway contract awarded

City and county project managers updated the Washington Area Transportation Committee on several local infrastructure items, including a reopened road, bridge work and an awarded airport contract.
Jim reported that the Old Highway 100 closure project finished construction and was opened to traffic fully paved and striped on Sept. 10, roughly three weeks ahead of schedule. He said crews will continue stabilizing the slide area for about two more weeks, using engineering fabric and stone, and that benchmarks will be set to monitor elevations.
Jordan described how the road realignment ties into bridge work and said survey crews had an easier time while the road was closed. "We might be able to replace the bridge just as it is in kind," Jordan said, adding that further engineering and traffic control during surveying may be required.
Sean reported the Jefferson Street project is wrapping up with paving largely complete and tie-ins continuing; the roadway was narrowed between Eighth and Twelfth Street to add a sidewalk on the west side. He also noted that the airport runway extension contract was awarded at a recent council meeting, and construction is expected to start this fall. Recent monthly flight counts were provided: May 290, June 297 and July 315; 22 larger jets were recorded in the most recent month.
Committee members praised crews for finishing ahead of schedule and asked staff to continue monitoring the slide and to circulate progress updates.
