District presents staff and student wellness data, plans Raptor visitor portal

The Platte County School District #1 administration presented initial wellness-survey results and strategic-plan steps at the Aug. 8 board meeting.

Staff wellness surveys returned roughly a 30% response rate; presenters said a majority of staff who responded report feeling appreciated and supported, and that 93% report feeling safe while about 7% reported rarely feeling safe. The district plans to deploy the Raptor visitor portal and to move check-in iPads into building vestibules so visitors are vetted before entering.

Student wellness survey response counts were reported by building: Middle School 154 responses, West 171, High School 38, Glendo 3-5 seven responses and Glendo 6-8 eleven responses. Presenters estimated roughly 40%–45% district participation and noted lower middle-school response rates and a lower percentage at the middle school reporting that teachers "care about them" (87%) compared with other schools (95%–100%).

Administrators told the board that certain accountability reports remain confidential to districts for about 10 days to permit verification; ACT and graduation data points will be finalized early this fall. The district expects to publish a more complete strategic-plan update in November and begin work on school improvement plans once data validation is complete.

Board members discussed strategies to improve survey response rates, including short "exit ticket" collection at staff meetings and classroom-level completion windows. No formal board action was required; staff were asked to continue outreach and to present final data and recommended next steps at the November update.
