Parent tells board repeated safety incidents and limited communication have harmed her child

Carly Ruby, a parent of three students in Platte County School District #1, used the public‑comment period to tell trustees she had repeatedly sought resolution of safety-related incidents involving her daughter and that early responses fell short of district and state policy expectations. "My daughter's situations ... go back as far as 2019," Ruby said, and she asked the board to stop relying on quiet fixes and instead hold the system accountable and improve staff training on conflict de‑escalation.

Ruby said she had pursued help at lower administrative levels for months and only recently was able to reach higher officials; she said some communication restrictions during moments when parental support was needed prolonged harm. She asked the board to consider broader training needs across the district as it implements statutes such as the concealed‑carry law and to ensure staff are equipped to respond to crises with "care and consistency."

Chair Speaker 1 acknowledged Ruby had met with a board member and with Mr. Weigel (a district official referenced during the meeting) and thanked her for raising concerns. The board did not take immediate action at the meeting beyond that acknowledgment; Ruby said she remains committed to pursuing constructive remedies and urged transparency and accountability for policy failures.
