The county attorney explained the change is intended to satisfy inquiries from state agencies and to provide a clear local ordinance enabling distribution of bonus appropriations to state‑supported staff such as sheriff's deputies or Department of Social Services employees. "There is a...law that specifically authorizes local governments to grant bonuses to employees," the county attorney said while describing the amendment.
The board opened the public hearing; no speakers were signed up and no written correspondence was submitted. A supervisor moved to approve the ordinance as presented, and the board approved the amendment by roll call, 5–0.
The county attorney said most localities adopt this kind of enabling ordinance once so that future bonus appropriations can be handled without repeat ordinance changes. The measure passed and will allow the county to certify local authority when accepting designated state bonus funds.
