VDOT updates Orange County supervisors on maintenance totals, roundabouts and upcoming public hearings

Gordon reported maintenance totals for the period, saying the crew "pot patched 184 potholes" and collected "817 cubic yards of debris." He also listed ditching (16,685 linear feet), nearly three miles of shoulder repair, grading of almost 100 center-line miles and other routine work. Gordon described recent pipe work—"replaced 220 linear feet of pipe" and cleaned "690 linear feet of pipe"—and machine brush removal and patching efforts.
On capital projects, Gordon said the Barbersville roundabout has switched to a roundabout configuration and the interior work is expected to be completed in December. He described the Route 601 low-speed curve project as moving forward with an ad date of 2027 and noted the Route 320 (3 and 20) and Route 20/522 projects have public-hearing milestones with dates discussed for Oct. 28 (some participants referenced Oct. 28 while others said Oct. 20; Gordon later confirmed "20 eighth"/Oct. 28 as the public hearing date). Board members expressed concern about scheduling conflicts with the Oct. 28 date for a necessary board meeting and asked VDOT to consider alternatives and to provide a traffic plan for how roundabout configuration will interact with a nearby shopping center.
Supervisors also raised constituent concerns about specific local roads: a request to consider hard surfacing on Route 673 near the dam, a request to complete center-line striping on a two-mile chip-and-seal stretch, and a constituent-requested speed study on Porter Road. VDOT staff agreed to investigate and follow up.
