Orange County approves $418,426 purchase to replace eight cardiac monitors

Orange County supervisors approved the purchase of eight replacement cardiac monitors and associated accessories at a net cost of $418,426, using a cooperative contract with Stryker Sales.

Amanda Amos, contract and procurement specialist, told the board the county’s capital-improvement plan includes a lease-purchase cycle for the monitors and that staff have used a cooperative contract with Stryker Sales for previous purchases. "The cost to replace 8 cardiac monitors and accessories is $467,024," Amos said, and trading in seven older devices (purchased between 2014 and 2016) provides a $56,000 discount "bringing the total cost of the new devices to $418,426." She also said maintenance for the devices is budgeted in the fire and EMS levy’s medical equipment maintenance line.

A supervisor moved to approve the replacement as presented and the motion was seconded; the board approved the purchase on a voice vote, 5-0. Meeting discussion noted Stryker’s national presence and shipping costs, and supervisors characterized the devices as expensive but necessary "to save lives." The action authorizes procurement under the cooperative contract and directs staff to proceed with trade-in arrangements and equipment installation.

What’s next: Procurement staff will finalize the trade-in, execute purchasing steps under the cooperative contract, and schedule delivery and installation; maintenance costs are already budgeted for future years.
