Members of the Mullet Festival Committee presented the festival's winning artwork to the council and announced the 2025 festival date (Oct. 18). The committee identified local artist Susan Peacock as the artist for this year's winning piece and asked the community to follow the festival's Facebook page for updates.
Council members used the meeting to thank volunteers and organizers. "Without volunteers, we would not have festivals like we have in our community," Mayor (unnamed) said as he invited committee members to stand and be recognized.
During council comments members paid tribute to City Manager Paula Shancy (also referenced in the meeting as Miss Shanksy/Shancy). Several councilmembers praised her leadership and record of securing state and federal funding for the city. Shancy addressed the council and said in part, "The employees of this city have been like my second family...I'm gonna miss you greatly." The council expressed appreciation and wished her well as she prepares to leave at the end of the month.
The festival presentation and the manager's comments were both part of the public meeting; the council asked staff to circulate follow-up invitations for festival-related first-responder appreciation and to continue coordination for homecoming and tailgate events.
