Lee County board approves contracts, pursues $67,000 in unclaimed property and makes personnel appointments

Beyond EMS funding and 911 billing, the Lee County Board of Supervisors approved several routine and personnel actions during its July 24 recess meeting.
Contracts and payments: The board approved entering an agreement with the Lane Group related to solid-waste/land-foreclosure DEQ paperwork after staff said the new agreement is substantially the same as prior contracts and requested authorization. The board also approved paying an Intrado invoice for the county 911 backbone (covered in a separate article).
Unclaimed property: Staff said the state is holding roughly $67,000 in unclaimed property tied to the town of Saint Charles. The board authorized staff (Robbie) to pursue claiming that money and, if collected, to place it in a separate fund to benefit the town.
Personnel and compensation: In closed session the board discussed personnel matters and then moved to reappropriate or supplement certain positions. A reappropriation motion to fund a commissioner-of-revenue position and a separate $10,000 reallocation failed on a close vote. The board voted to hire Matthew Robert Duncan for an IT position at $52,000 per year and appointed Veil Edwards as EMS coordinator. The board also approved a supplement for Joanne, the new head dispatcher, for taking on scheduling duties.
Equipment procurement: The board authorized staff to solicit bids for a commercial-grade lawnmower and asked county staff to explore a potential grant to fund a mower for the airport. The board directed procurement to use prior specifications when soliciting bids.
Adjournment and next steps: The board moved into closed session for personnel, then returned to approve the personnel appointments listed above and adjourned. Staff has follow-up tasks on unclaimed property and procurement and will return with additional details at the next meeting.
