Board honors student athletes and recognizes long-serving staff

Students recognized included Lily Porter, named VHSL Class 1 Female Athlete of the Year and a tennis state qualifier, and a set of baseball and softball players from Grundy High who earned All-Region and honorable-mention distinctions. The board also recognized girls relay teams that qualified for state competition in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays and noted that one athlete’s name (Madison) was missing from the packet and would receive a certificate later.
The board presented a retirement recognition to Wanda Hess, identified as a secretary/bookkeeper at Council High School with 34 years of service to Buchanan County Schools; a cutting board crafted by students in the vocational carpentry program was presented as a token of appreciation.
The recognitions were ceremonial and did not require board votes.
