Board adopts Virginia School Board Association policies, removes fourth-offense cellphone suspension

A board member asked whether the district should rescind last year’s policy when adopting the VSBA language; the board agreed to delete the fourth-offense suspension and accept the VSBA policies in its place. "Make a motion that we delete the fourth offense to meet the governor's standards, which is 3 offenses and no out of school suspension," one member said during the second reading.
Separately, the board accepted a state-driven shift from accreditation to an accountability point system. A presenter summarized the system: elementary and middle schools will earn points for growth and mastery (65% threshold for mastery), chronic absenteeism counts (10% of 180 days equals 18 days), and high-school accountability uses cohort-based measures, with mastery, graduation and readiness weighted across the point score. The board moved to accept the new accountability system and voted in favor.
