Board approves five-year lease to continue district use of GTEC workforce center

Board members approved a five-year lease agreement that allows the school division to continue leasing the workforce-development center commonly called GTEC from the county.
Staff explained the district deeded the old Goochland Elementary and GTEC property back to the county earlier this year and is now leasing back the workforce center on a five-year term. Dr. Armstrong said the lease aligns with planning for a future career-and-technical (CT) addition at the secondary complex and that any major renovations would be coordinated with the county.
Ms. Worsing moved to approve the GTEC lease and the motion was seconded; the board approved the lease by voice vote. The chair said she would sign the document and get it to county staff. The lease authorizes continued district program operations at GTEC while planning for a permanent home for heavy-equipment programs and other CT offerings.
