School board approves FY25 budget adjustments, recognizes higher cafeteria revenue and adopts annual crisis plan

The Goochland County School Board approved several fiscal adjustments and the division's annual crisis and safety plan at its meeting.

Ms. Weich, the division director of finance, told the board the FY25 budget amendments were required to account for unanticipated special-education due-process legal fees and to realign categorical instruction lines; she said the division has submitted a request to the Virginia Department of Education for reimbursement and that "they support 50% of any court hearing costs that we incur." The board approved the budget transfers (section C) after removing that item from the consent slate for separate consideration.

Weich also said the cafeteria fund needed a supplement to recognize higher-than-expected USDA-donated food revenue and related expenses. The board approved the budget supplements and the remainder of the consent slate by voice vote.

The board next considered the annual crisis and safety plan prepared by Dr. Wagner and staff. Board members were provided copies of the plan but the administration explained the plan is not made public because it contains sensitive security details; the board voted to adopt the crisis plan by voice vote.

Following those approvals, a motion was made to convene another closed meeting under FOIA to discuss personnel matters related to the superintendent's performance; the motion passed and the board entered closed session.
