Commissioners approve replacement for retiring sheriff’s front-office staff

An unidentified speaker moved “to approve the... convenience request for front office staff replacement,” and Walker Billings seconded. Chair called for a voice vote; multiple commissioners responded “Aye,” and the motion passed. Levi Dominguez (chair) had earlier explained the request: the current full-time administrative secretary will retire Nov. 30 and the office hopes to hire a replacement to start Nov. 1 so the new employee can complete required training. Dominguez said the request should not affect the current budget because a vacant patrol deputy salary line can cover the short-term cost.
Commissioners asked whether there were internal candidates and were told the previous part-time employee had left; staff will open the position and consider interested internal applicants. The county will move forward with recruitment so the replacement can be trained before the pending retirement.
