Wachusett Girls Flag Football team reports rapid growth, regional and national play; seeks continued support

Students and coaches from the Wachusett Girls Flag Football program appeared before the Wachusett Regional School District Committee to report on the program’s second season and to request continued support.
Jordan D’Amelio, a senior who founded the program, and teammates described rapid growth — from a nine-player squad last year to about 30 players this season — and a string of accomplishments. Presenters said the program was invited to regional events, played at Gillette Stadium and at a halftime event for the New England Patriots, competed in national championships in Pennsylvania (placing seventh in one division and other teams placing second/fifth in others), and reported a season record presented as 10–2 with a combined total of 332 points scored and 41 points allowed in 12 games.
Head coach Bridgette D’Amelio and assistant coach Nicole Daley outlined community partnerships that helped the program grow, including invitations from the Leominster Flag Football League and hosting collaboration with Ayer-Shirley. The team asked the committee to consider hosting playoff games and to support efforts to seek official sanctioning through the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) when the association’s rule review allows it.
“We have big plans to make sure we are there,” Jordan D’Amelio said of upcoming state finals, and presenters thanked the committee and the community for attendance, media coverage and administrative support. The chair encouraged the district to assist the team in advocacy for MIAA sanctioning and to stay informed about potential timelines for official recognition.
