District finance director Michelle Grise honored with MASBO Rising Star award

The Wachusett Regional School District’s director of business and finance, Michelle Grise, received the 2025 Rising Star Award from the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials for improvements to financial reporting, budgeting and payroll automation.
Margaret Raymond Driscoll, executive director of the Massachusetts Association of School Business Officials, presented the 2025 MASBO Rising Star Award to Michelle Grise, director of business and finance for the Wachusett Regional School District. Driscoll praised Grise’s work improving financial reporting accuracy, completing state-required submissions on time, and implementing a needs-based budgeting process that the nominator said keeps town assessments lower. "This prestigious award acknowledges the value and contributions of outstanding school business officials within the first 10 years of their school business career," Driscoll said.
Driscoll also noted Grise’s work to modernize payroll calendars, automate W-2 distribution and refine budget transfers. The citation cited timely completion of end-of-year reports, certification of excess and deficiency balances, reconciliations brought up to date, and clear, comprehensive presentations to the committee. "She is nothing short of a superstar," Driscoll said, adding the award includes a MASBO-paid trip and a token of appreciation.
Superintendent Riley and multiple committee members offered congratulations during the meeting. The committee did not take any formal action related to the award; the presentation was an item on the agenda that the committee acknowledged before moving to other business.
