The city manager (speaker 5) reported to the St. Joseph City Council on July 28 that Cell 8 at the Saint Joseph Sanitary Landfill has been completed and publicly recognized landfill staff and contractor Emcon for their work.
"Mayor and council, I wanted to recognize, both our staff at the landfill, as well as Emcon, who's here upfront, for completion of Cell 8 at the landfill," the city manager said. He thanked the state legislature and singled out Representative Shields for help navigating the Missouri Department of Natural Resources process.
Describing the scale of the project, the city manager said, "there's 3 full size football fields just in the base of Cell 8," noting the large volume of earth moved and the partnership between city staff and the contractor. A second speaker praised the leadership and public-private collaboration that helped complete the work.
The report was delivered as part of the city manager's regular report; no formal action was taken on the completion during the meeting. The council adjourned without additional agenda items.
