Town of Accomack's interim mayor asks school board to consider restoring Bailey's Hall as community space

Sean Boutet, identified in the public comment period as the interim mayor of the Town of Accomack, told the school board the town is interested in Bailey's Hall, a structure behind the new courthouse on Court House Street that the town believes is underused and largely serving as storage.
"Majority of it is a storage facility at this point," Boutet said, and he urged the board to consider transferring the structure to the town so it could be rehabilitated and used as a town hall or community center. Boutet said the building is on the National Register and that the town would pursue historic grants to restore it but acknowledged that significant funding would be required.
Boutet asked the board to "plant the seed" by considering creative ways to revive the building and signaled the town's willingness to pursue grants and other resources to accomplish a restoration. Board members thanked him and asked whether there were any questions; none were recorded in the public transcript at that time.
The comment was made during the public comment period and did not prompt a board vote; any transfer or change in property ownership would require additional formal action and public notice.
