Senate Public Utilities Committee unanimously approves governor's appointment, refers it to rules

The Senate Public Utilities Committee voted unanimously to approve a governor's appointment and referred the nomination to the committee on rules and reference during a brief session that also approved minutes and corrected a typographical error.

The committee opened with routine business and a pledge. The chair told members the appointee's biography had been sent to members' offices on Friday and was available on committee iPads. A committee member moved "I move to approve the governor's appointment and send it to the committee on rules in reference," and the motion was put to a roll-call vote.

Vice Chair Lindsey, Senator Brown, Senator Thomas, Senator Gabbroen and Senator Wilson each responded "Yes" when the clerk called the roll. The chair announced, "With unanimous vote, the appointment is approved and will be sent to the committee on rules and reference." The chair then reminded members to sign the vote sheet before adjourning.

Earlier, the committee approved minutes from March 19 and March 26. A member flagged a misspelling of George Lang's name in the March 19 minutes; the chair said the spelling would be corrected and the minutes were agreed to without objection.

The committee took no other substantive actions during the session. The appointment now moves to the committee on rules and reference for further consideration.
