Superintendent reports enrollment, grant pursuit and facilities work; board approves budget calendar

Dr. Martin told the board that it has been ‘‘almost a month since the first day of school’’ and described widespread staff and student engagement. He reported that initial first-day enrollment figures were about 4,663 and said no-shows have fallen from 202 students to 37 since opening. He reminded the board the budget is based on an enrollment projection of 4,860.
Dr. Martin said the district recently received SOL scores and plans to present the data at the September work session. He announced an Education Endowment grant application intended to expand the engineering program; the grant would fund an instructor and ‘‘hundreds of thousands of dollars’’ in equipment. He also said the district received a geotechnical report for the tennis courts and that ag instructors will present expansion plans at the September work session.
After the presentation, Ms. Lowe moved that the Warren County School Board approve the 2627 budget development calendar as presented; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Administrators said the calendar was designed to reduce paper and streamline board review of budget materials.
