Board member Ms. Salins asked the board to consider changing the proposed GCPB resignation policy to prevent accepting resignations while active investigations are pending and to remove the provision allowing a one-week retraction of resignation. She said allowing retractions can leave human-resources staff scrambling to fill positions and that the district should be able to delay acceptance of a resignation when a role cannot be filled immediately.
Ms. Salins also proposed a provision to allow the superintendent to delay a resignation’s effective date so that core classes do not go unstaffed mid-term. Other board members acknowledged exceptions for employees promoted to administrative roles but agreed the district should limit disruptions to students’ instruction.
An HR representative told the board the draft drew from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a best-practice source and noted that the one-week retraction period was copied from the Code of Virginia. HR said it will review the wording and consider the board’s request about investigations and delayed effective dates before the next reading.
No policy vote was taken at the meeting; administrators presented redline language for review and asked the board for suggested edits ahead of a later vote.
