School board approves proclamations, advisory council, personnel slate and property transfer
Summary
At its Sept. 4 meeting the Danville Public Schools board approved the printed agenda and minutes, recognized Hispanic and Attendance Awareness months, accepted the Adult Education Advisory Council list, approved personnel recommendations, and authorized returning 230 South Ridge Street to the city when Galileo moves to the new Langston Campus.
The Danville Public Schools Board of Education on Sept. 4 approved several routine and administrative items, including proclamations, an advisory-council slate, personnel recommendations, and a property-transfer resolution.
Mister Payne moved and Miss Cunningham seconded approval of the printed meeting agenda; the clerk called the roll and recorded the motion as approved. Doctor Williams moved to approve the minutes of the Aug. 21, 2025 regular meeting, with Mister Terry seconding; the motion carried by roll call.
The board approved a proclamation recognizing Hispanic and Latino Heritage Month (Sept. 15–Oct. 15, 2025) after a motion by Doctor Williams and a second by Miss Cunningham. A presenter described planned district events, including an inaugural Hispanic Heritage event on Oct. 4 at Bonner Middle School; the proclamation read in part included language from a gubernatorial proclamation signed by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
The board accepted the district's Attendance Awareness Month proclamation and a certificate of recognition for staff supporting attendance initiatives, and it approved the 2025–26 Adult Education Advisory Council list following a motion by Miss Avery and a second by Miss Cunningham.
On personnel matters, the board approved the employee recommendations after a motion by Doctor Williams and a second by Mister Terry. The board also approved a resolution to return the property at 230 South Ridge Street (the former Sears building) to the city when Galileo transitions to the new Langston Campus building by Jan. 1; Mister Payne moved the action and Miss Cunningham seconded.
Votes on these action items were recorded by roll call during the meeting; the clerk's roll-call process is part of the official minutes for each recorded action. Several items were presented as informational updates (for example, the SOL pass-rate briefing and the immunization update) and did not require board action.
The board adjourned to a scheduled work session following the meeting.
