The chair framed the discussion as a proposal to restructure dates rather than merely increasing the frequency. Staff noted calendar constraints—some months are heavy with events (Heritage & FreedomFest, fall workshops, holiday show planning) and recording-secretary availability is a factor. One commissioner suggested keeping six meetings but spreading them differently; another favored monthly meetings to avoid long gaps between business. Staff recommended mapping the commission's event calendar and "backing up" from event deadlines to identify when votes are required and when the commission should meet.
"If you do get too many of these, it can be very repetitive," one staff member said, cautioning that more meetings could deliver duplicate updates rather than new decisions. Staff outlined a three-step approach should the commission decide to change the schedule: (1) discuss and pick a preferred cadence at the next meeting, (2) rewrite the bylaws to reflect the new schedule, and (3) present revised bylaws to City Council for approval. Commissioners agreed to review the calendar and email suggestions to Mariah ahead of the September meeting; the commission plans to vote on the schedule in September and on bylaws in October, with any adopted schedule implemented in 2026 after council approval.
No formal schedule change was voted at the August meeting.
