Charlotte County agrees to potential $4,000 support for youth teams headed to World Series

At the July meeting the Charlotte County Board of Supervisors approved a conditional appropriation to support local youth teams headed to regional competition. A recreation committee member told the board the county’s 12‑year‑old Dixie Majors team won the state championship — reportedly the sixth such championship in county history — and that girls’ teams are also competing at the state level this weekend. Board discussion framed the appropriation as a community investment in youth and local ambassadors for the county.
The motion was made, seconded and carried by voice vote; the appropriation is conditional on teams actually advancing and incurring travel costs.
Next step: county staff will implement the payment only if the teams qualify and attend.
