The board voted unanimously to proclaim several observances for September 2025. Board Member Savallero read a proclamation designating Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, 2025, as Hispanic Heritage Month and asked that the proclamation be presented to the district's multicultural department.
In a separate proclamation, Superintendent Michael Burke recommended declaring September 2025 as National Hunger Action Month. Board Member Erica Whitfield, who has served on the United Way hunger board, noted the district's partnership with United Way and cited growth in after-school meal sites from 15 in 2015 to 196 in 2024 as evidence of expanded hunger-relief programming.
Earlier in the meeting, the superintendent also recommended proclamations for National PTA Membership Month and Suicide Prevention Month; the board approved those items unanimously. Board members present asked that staff coordinate presentations to community groups and publicize the observances.
