Augusta County board moves on routine business: rezoning, study match, radar signs and other items

During routine business the board considered several discrete items:
Crossco rezoning: Planning staff described a request from Crossco Company to rezone about 1.476 acres of a 102.84-acre parcel from general industrial with proffers to general agriculture with proffers. Mr. Layman, the board member representing the North River district, noted adjacent agricultural operations and moved to approve the rezoning application.
Infrastructure adds and deletes: The finance director reviewed small infrastructure adjustments identified in the quarterly financial report. A board member made a motion to accept the listed adds and deletes to clean up accounting records.
Business-ready site study match: Staff said the state awarded a $500,000 Business Ready Site Program grant to study water and sewer opportunities in the county park and that the county's requested match for the study would be $55,000 (the service authority and the service authority's construction match would cover other amounts). One supervisor moved to proceed with the study and the county match as presented; the motion was seconded and readied for a vote.
Radar speed signs: Following a VDOT speed study showing 85th percentile speeds near 35 mph in a 25-mph zone, the board considered purchasing two radar speed signs at a quoted cost of $6,899. A board member moved to use personal district infrastructure funds to purchase the signs and a second was recorded.
Announcements and adjournment: Staff announced an October 21 ribbon-cutting and open house at the new animal shelter on Route 11; a board member publicized a Veterans Memorial fundraiser cruise-in on the 28th. A motion to adjourn was made, seconded and the chair declared the meeting adjourned.
