After opening remarks and a recognition for retiring Assistant Superintendent Billy Epteen, the Leon County School Board cleared a large consent agenda and approved several individual contract items during its July 29 meeting.
Key approvals and votes at a glance - Policy amendments (various items 19.02–19.05, 19.06, 19.07, 19.08): approved unanimously after public hearings with no public comment. - Lively Pre‑K relocation / 5‑year educational plant supplemental survey (item 19.09, version 6.4): approved unanimously; staff described the relocation to the Leon County Schools learning center on Trojan Trail/Connor Boulevard and renovations in progress. - Greenpointe concurrency agreement (item 19.01): approved unanimously (see separate coverage). - Griffin Middle School GMP contract (item 19.11): approved unanimously for phase 2 (new gymnasium and demolition of Buildings 9 and 10); board members praised the contractor’s work and noted weather-related schedule impacts. - ParentSquare contract/transition (items 19.12 and 19.18): board approved extending ParentSquare with an annual cost ceiling not to exceed $189,750 as the district migrates from Remind to a new parent-engagement platform. - Travel approval (item 19.15): approved out-of-county travel for School Board member Alva Smith to attend the Chamber Community Conference in Amelia Island, Aug. 14–17; board member Smith will not seek reimbursement from board funds. - Procurement action (item 19.17): board approved Purchasing’s recommendation to reject all replies and resolicit the School Bus Infraction Detection System RFP; see procurement coverage above.
Board liaisons reported on community partnerships and the Children’s Services Council funding concerns; one liaison urged community engagement on the council’s millage discussions. With no further business the chair adjourned the meeting.
The board scheduled a final budget hearing for Sept. 9, 2025. Several items approved at this meeting will require staff follow-up and public notice as part of the budget and procurement processes.
