St. Louis County Council proclaims October 2025 Community Planning Month, honors planning staff

The St. Louis County Council on Sept. 30 adopted a resolution designating October 2025 as Community Planning Month and publicly recognized county planning staff for their work on the county's comprehensive plan.

The clerk read Resolution No. 1, introduced by Council Members Days and Webb, formally designating October 2025 as Community Planning Month in St. Louis County. The council voted to adopt the resolution; the clerk recorded five ayes and two absent. After the vote, Chairwoman Days invited planning department staff forward to accept the resolution.

A planning-department representative identified in the record as Melanie said the council’s unanimous adoption reflects months of engagement and collaboration and announced the plan received an award from the Missouri chapter of the American Planning Association. Another staff member, Jacob, thanked the council for support and said the department looks forward to implementing the plan with all seven council members and community partners.

Council members and staff emphasized public engagement and collaboration in producing the plan and encouraged residents to review the plan materials, which the planning department said are available on the county’s fifth floor.

The council also used the opportunity to acknowledge the county’s Youth Advisory Council; Charlene Hughes of the Department of Human Services introduced several youth members by district and the chair congratulated them.

No formal policy action beyond the resolution was taken; the resolution directs the administrative director to send a certified copy to the Department of Planning and serves as a ceremonial recognition and public affirmation of the county’s planning process.
