Board adopts minor site-plan amendment for Waterway Car Wash at 860 S. Milwaukee Ave.

The Vernon Hills Village Board on July 22 adopted Ordinance 2025-085 to amend a prior special-use permit (2003-25) and allow a minor site-plan change at Waterway Car Wash, 860 South Milwaukee Avenue.
Director Jennings explained the amendment would flatten most of the existing landscape berm that obstructed visibility from southbound Milwaukee Avenue while keeping the areas around existing signs at their current elevation. “They would flatten out most of the berm, and the taller landscaping would be replaced with lower lying landscaping,” Jennings said.
Alexis Opperman, a representative from Manhart Consulting, said the proposed new landscaping fits within current code and confirmed the disturbed areas would be reestablished as grass. The board moved, seconded and approved the ordinance by roll call; all voting trustees recorded Aye and the motion carried.
The ordinance as adopted modifies the landscaping plan tied to the property’s special-use approval and will be incorporated into the village’s permit documentation.
