Village staff and President Cook previewed Vernon Hills’ summer programming, emphasizing community events and partner contributions.
Highlights include the Miss Vernon Hills pageant (Saturday, June 21, 1 p.m. at the Sullivan Center), a six‑show Arbor Theatre concert series (Wednesdays at 7 p.m. June 18–Aug. 6), the James & Helen Hyer Veterans Fishing Derby (June 22, for service members receiving treatment at Captain James A. Lovell VA Hospital), the annual July 4 parade (starting near Deerpath and countryside fire station) and fireworks at Century Park at dusk, and Vernon Hills Days (July 17–20) with a carnival, bands and a sensory‑friendly Friday. National Night Out will be at Hartman Park on August 5, and Little Bear Rib Fest is planned for Aug. 15–16 at Century Park.
Staff also announced two ribbon cuttings: Hacienda Real (June 11) and Yard House (June 21), noting Hawthorne Row activations tied to those openings. Organizers thanked the police, fire, park district, Legion Post and local volunteers for event support.
