Two Vernon Hills residents used the public‑comment period on May 20 to press the board for traffic‑safety improvements after a vehicle crashed into a home on Michigan Court on May 10.
Felicia Gill (98 Michigan Court) told the board she was fortunate to be jogging when the driver went through her living room and asked for additional measures — earlier and more prominent signage, rumble strips, cameras to catch speeders, and flashing lights at crosswalks. She thanked police, fire and village staff for their response and said she feared that without changes someone could be seriously injured or killed.
Sharon Sacato (88 Michigan Court) said she has lived in the area more than 30 years, described multiple past collisions at a curve that led to removal of a repeatedly damaged fire hydrant, and urged evaluation of traffic patterns on Indianwood and Greenleaf. She said police presence can be intermittent and expressed particular concern for children using the nearby bike path and crosswalks.
President Tom Cook Jr. told both residents the board would have staff look into the concerns. No formal traffic‑safety measures were adopted during the May 20 meeting; residents and trustees discussed enforcement and potential engineering remedies.
