The program, created in 2003, distributes grants to local charitable and nonprofit organizations that provide services to Vernon Hills residents. The 2025 application cycle received 17 requests totaling $88,500; staff recommended 16 grants summing to $68,000 based on local service demonstration and prior funding levels. Staff and trustees noted one applicant, Foundation Fighting Blindness, was not recommended because the application did not demonstrate a clear local benefit despite the organization having a home office elsewhere.
Trustees said they trusted staff’s review and moved to approve the recommendation for staff to prepare an ordinance at a subsequent meeting for final allocation; a roll call approved the recommendation. Staff indicated awards will be administered in May.
