Dustin Hoefiger, representing the American Heart Association, told the House Health Committee that House Bill 104 to designate Feb. 14 as Cardiovascular Health Awareness Day would focus public attention on prevention and early detection of heart disease and stroke.
Hoefiger said cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. and Ohio, affecting people across age and socioeconomic groups, and that a specific awareness day builds a platform for outreach, community events and education about risk factors and warning signs. He urged committee support to reinforce prevention and highlight disparities in cardiovascular outcomes.
The committee accepted the testimony, noted written submissions and closed the second hearing on HB104; no vote was taken during the session.
