The Monongalia County Commission voted Sept. 10 to provide up to $30,000 in funding to the town of Blacksville to address immediate sewage-system needs, overdue obligations and to support a study of the system before committing additional funds.
Commissioners said the immediate need is primarily for pumping tanks and other short-term fixes while county and town staff work to collect overdue fees from roughly 29 accounts. Commissioner Tom and other members described the funding as a "band-aid" to stabilize the system while the town develops a plan for comprehensive rehabilitation. The motion set a not-to-exceed limit of $30,000 and passed by voice vote.
Staff said further funds or long-term rehabilitation would be considered only after studies clarify the system's needs and responsibilities for future costs are determined.
