County manager report: Naylor well progress, jail expansion nearing completion and makers market draws downtown traffic

During the county manager's report, staff provided three operational updates. Steve Stalvi said the contractor on the Naylor well project has mobilized, hay-bale check dams are installed and drilling had reached about 205 feet with potential deeper drilling to roughly 600 feet; piping was about 25% complete and Georgia Power is running power to the site.
Mr. McLeod said the jail expansion and medical facility are in the final month to month-and-a-half of work, with upcoming mechanical, electrical and plumbing trim followed by low-voltage, security and furniture installation; final inspections are anticipated by the end of October and staff will arrange a commissioners' tour before occupancy.
Ms. Barwick reported on bicentennial activities, describing a makers market held Aug. 16 that featured more than 30 local vendors, strong downtown traffic and more than $2,000 in sales from a historic gift shop pop-up. Vendors and local businesses reported robust sales during the event and staff said they would explore additional spring dates.
